Charlotte, NC (January 30, 2017) – Common Market is excited to announce a new neighborhood hub in the heart of Oakhurst and backdoor of Cotswold, aptly named Common Market OakWold. The existing partners are proud to bring The Common Market’s funk to a new neighborhood.

“With the displacement of the South End store, we began to consider the possibilities of relocating into another neighborhood. Driving on Monroe everyday moving children to school, the thought of Oakhurst popped into our heads. We dug around that neighborhood and it felt so right!” said Blake Barnes. “The fact that this location is within a block of where Commonwealth Ave. dead ends into Monroe Road only added to the attraction of that neighborhood.” Barnes, founder of the Plaza Midwood store, continued.

“There are a lot of people who grew up with me in Plaza Midwood but have moved down the road as their families have expanded, so familiarity will not be an issue. We look forward to being a part of that wonderful neighborhood!”

The Common Market OakWold will occupy 6,500 square feet, including a newly created 1,300 square feet of covered patio with garage door access leading to the interior portion of the store. The new design will include many of the features of the other Common Markets, including full deli, coffee, fantastic beer and wine selection and of course, the off-the-wall retail. New additions to the OakWold location will include a full U-shaped bar, as well as an expanded kitchen focusing on prepared foods and take-away options.

“We wanted to help provide a place for the surrounding neighborhoods to gather as we felt there was that sense of community emerging in the area.” said Chuck Barger, owner of The Common Market. “In the past couple of years, we have run into so many people in our stores from the area who stress how great the area is and how they would embrace a Common Market. We took on that feedback and decided to move forward as CM OakWold is committed to grow with the ever-changing community.”
