Charlotte, NC (November 2, 2016) – Common Market is proud to announce that they are returning to a new location in the heart of South End.
“Our goal has always been to remain in South End as a neighborhood gathering place where everyone is welcome,” said Chuck Barger, owner of Common Market. “We’re so excited to continue that energy in a new spot in South End. We do not aim to replace but rather renew again the funk that makes Common Market great.”
This new location is at 235 W. Tremont Avenue at the center of a new hub of energy for South End. It is just steps from the Rail Trail, Atherton Mill and Market, two breweries and 550 recently announced new residences are planned or under construction.
“We are thrilled to welcome Common Market South End back to the neighborhood,” said Michael Smith, President and CEO of Charlotte Center City Partners. “It is an iconic neighborhood gathering spot with a vibe that is unique to South End.”
The Common Market will occupy 7,000 square feet of updated warehouse space and patio. The new design will include many of the features of the first edition of Common Market South End including much of the original furniture, as well as an expanded bar, deli, coffee and quirky market, just as before.
With the renovated space, there will be new features and vibrancy. “The renderings offer insight into the spirit of a reimagined Common Market South End. The new space allows us to expand on some of the Common Market’s most beloved features, such as the indoor / outdoor patio,” said Blake Barnes. “Regardless of what the final design looks like, we believe what made the Common Market South End special are our customers, employees and the sense of community the South End brought to the business.”
The new Common Market South End plan includes an exciting expansion on the patio: 4,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor space with a music stage, natural shade from the surrounding trees and potentially a balcony level, with expansive views of Uptown and South End.
The Common Market is also excited to bring on a new partner, Graham Worth, who will help get Common Market up and running in South End and likely new locations in the coming months.
“We are thrilled to have Common Market South End back in the neighborhood,” said Jen McCartney, President of the South End Neighborhood Association. “It is our ‘commons’ and gathering spot before and after work. When you want to find your neighbors, Common Market is a good first stop.”
The renovation work will begin this winter with Common Market SE is targeting an opening in late Spring of 2017.
